Swamp Walk...

A definite first for me and very happy for the experience. Just outside Charleston, South Carolina, maybe thirty miles or so lies one of the oldest plantations in the country. The Magnolia Plantation, founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. On the grounds of this plantation exists a swamp walk. Here, you walk out, around and through the swamp. The photos here are a few of my encounters.

Here you have a 400 year old Virginia Live Oak draped with Spanish Moss...

Here you have two Canadian Geese swimming through the duck weed...

A Canada Goose feeding on the duck weed...
A Little Blue Heron...

A Little Blue Heron eying its prey...
A group of Blue-winged Teal...
Blue-winged Teal...

Blue-winged Teal...
A small turtle layered with duck weed...

Sneaking through the shallows a White Ibis...
And here we have a White Egret...

An Alligator floats amongst the weeds...

An Alligator has crept out of the water and on to a sunning platform...

Here an Alligator shows himself long enough for a photo...

Here two turtles, each about the size of a basketball, sun themselves along with the Alligator...

wow! loved all of these! the duck weed made me shudder a bit, though (it overtook a pond at our previous place and we had to rake it off by hand!) love the little blue heron - such a gorgeous color. you got great shots throughout!
