A Groundhog, a few Whitetail Deer and a Carolina Wren...

The first two photos are of a 300 year old Sycamore Tree, a dominant landmark in the Monocacy National Battlefield. Imagine the history it has experienced. I spotted a Groundhog the other day. This little guy needed to be in his den doing the hibernation thing. I guess the unusually warm December day confused him a bit and he was out and about giving me a few photo ops. There has been a nice 8 point buck that would not cooperate in giving me a good photo. He always seemed to be able to get in areas that just did not offer a decent photo. Unlike several doe that offered many different ops. The Carolina Wren didn't seem to mind me in its territory at all.

Many times while waiting and expecting to see and photograph whitetail deer I have had visitors of many sorts. Often enough things work out to my advantage. Here are some examples.

Black-capped Chickadee...

Downy Woodpecker...

Grey Squirrel...

On my way to my destination I spotted this Red-shouldered Hawk...
