A Box Turtle, Carolina Wren, Goldfinch, Great White Egret, Mourning Dove, Turkey Buzzard and a Trumpeter Swan

The subjects here all volunteered. There was no arm/wing twisting, coercion or bribes of any type. All subjects survived the photographic ordeal. The turtle was physically handled however, I had to move him off the road.

Here a Box Turtle had made the dubious decision to cross this country road...

Box Turtle...
A Carolina Wren has found its breakfast... Mmm...
An American Goldfinch sets in the reeds...
A Great White Egret gives me a fly by...
A Mourning Dove blends in with its surroundings...
A Turkey Buzzard has picked up a snake, who apparently is not so happy about it...
It looks as tho the buzzard has nearly swallowed its catch...
A Trumpeter Swan has discovered an intruder...

Out vermin out!
And don't come back...

Show Boat Brown Headed Cowbirds

My best guess it's due to the season. When I first saw them I thought I would try getting a couple shots of them sitting in their places. Little did I know they were prepping for each other by putting on a display. They would stare at each other and then alternately, flash each other their wing span and a feather ruffle. I'm betting a mating dance. It was the first time I had seen something like this from Cowbirds.

Brown Headed Cowbirds sizing each other up...
Here I am in all my glory...
Oh yeah! Look at this!...

Ok...Ok... Look at this!...
You're a poser! You heard me a poser!...

I can do this all day... I think I'm starting to like you...
You're not so bad yourself big boy...

Local Haunts and Their Offerings...

I am always appreciative of what is offered me while out on my walks. For me, it's usually who sees who first and as luck would have it, being at the right place at the right time.

A Canadian Goose is alerted to my presence...

This Northern Cardinal was following my every move...

A Great Blue Heron fishing for breakfast...

A Great Blue Heron Rookery, there will be young ones soon...

Spring temperatures bring an early lily pad...

The backside of a large Snapping Turtle, I thought I should try get a shot before it disappeared...

She stayed put long enough for me to get closer...

Oops, too close...
A Grey Squirrel...

A Kingbird sets long enough for a shot...

Three female Mergansers preen and lounge...

A submerged Snapping Turtle swims to the edge of the pond...
Hello...
A Wild Turkey...

Spring brings out the best...

A young Whitetail looks at me looking at her...

The end of a day left me with this sight...

Coming out of the woods and looking across the field I saw these two Whitetail...
A Groundhog giving me the eyeball...

A Killdeer...
A Great Blue Heron sets at its nest at the rookery...
