A Downy Woodpecker, a Northern Flicker and a Cedar Waxwing ...

Sometimes when sitting and waiting for a particular quarry you can often times be presented unexpected gifts. This day gave me a Downy Woodpecker, a Northern Flicker and a Cedar Waxwing.

Wild Turkey

Let me say this fellow, a Wild Turkey, honored me by presenting himself freely with unabashed candor. Then turned and returned from where he came. It was early evening and the surroundings were wet from fog and a light rain. I had to set my camera ISO to 3200 in order to capture anything acceptable. The Turkey seemed to have a purpose to his destination, fortunately he was coming my way.

The Beautiful Turkey Vulture

You really have to love these guys. Turkey Vultures ride thermals in the sky and use their keen sense of smell to find fresh carcasses. They are a consummate scavenger, cleaning up the countryside one bite of their sharply hooked bill at a time. The Vultures that you see here were cleaning up on a deer carcass before I interupted them.

Large Whitetail Buck

This is the season for seeing increased whitetail activity. The rut often provides more opportunities for seeing bucks such as the one you see here.
