This morning began as a quest for the Whitetail. The early part of the rut has begun. Many of the bucks are ready to go and they will follow any potential breading doe everywhere and anywhere across the countryside. This morning brought forth a few birds and also a couple fury critters. I was visited by a Grey Squirrel, a Fox Squirrel, an Acadian Flycatcher, a Ceder Waxwing and a Red-bellied Woodpecker (fm). All of these creatures were all with-in thirty yards from me during my wait for the Whitetails. Then, without any warning at all, a doe burst from the woods, crossed the road and grassy field and into the woods below. I figured if she was moving that fast she had a reason. Sure enough, two or three minutes later came a large beautiful Whitetail Buck. He wasn't in much of a hurry but I'm sure he was following a scent. He took a brief look at me and then resumed his purpose. A real magnificent animal.
