Always Something... Some Whitetails, a Red-bellied Woodpecker, Mergansers and a Red-shouldered Hawk

Some days are like this, mind you, two different locations but all in the same day. I like it when I have days like this. The young Whitetail you see first bounced out in front of me. Not to sure what to think it trotted a short distance and then turned to see if I was still there. The next series of Whitetails shows a group, one of which is a buck. The interesting thing here is he still has his antlers. These photos were taken mid February, most have lost their antlers by now. Of course by my appearance they exited the field and congregated in the woods. The Red-bellied Woodpecker was picking out the proper sized pebbles for its dietary needs. The Mergansers offered me a few moments of their time before my presence forced their departure. And of course one of my favorite raptors, a Red-shouldered Hawk allowed me a brief moment.

A young Whitetail trying to figure me out...

OK... I think I should leave...

Are you still there...

I came up and out of the woods and discovered a heard of Whitetails in the field...

In with the group was an antlered buck, very unusual for this time of year...

I have been discovered...

About 60 to 70 yards into the woods they are still checking me out...
A Red-bellied Woodpecker...

American Mergansers...

A Red-shouldered Hawk, before it discovered me...

And after it discovered me...

gorgeous hawk! love the mergansers - seem to be drakes vs. hens. :)

but that little flag tail in the first couple of shots wins the award today. :)
